VFIS® Emergency Vehicle Driver Training

Weber Emergency Services offers initial and refresher training through the VFIS® Emergency Vehicle Driver Training curriculum.

The initial training consists of six (6) hours of classroom instruction followed by behind the wheel practice and evaluation on a prescribed Competency Course using the emergency vehicle(s) provided by the student's agency that he/she will be expected to operate.

This course meets the requirements set forth by the Michigan Firefighters Training Council (MFFTC), Office of Firefighter Training for driver training.

This course of instruction meets the requirements of the Michigan Vehicle Code, Public Act 300 of 1949, 257.312(e)(2), exempting the operator of an authorized emergency vehicle from possessing a CDL that would ordinarily be required.

It is also strongly recommended for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) providers to that a course in the safe operation of an emergency vehicle at some point in their career.

This course is pre-approved by the Michigan Department of Community Health for a total of five (5) EMS continuing education lecture credits in the Operations category; three (3) for Emergency Driving, and two (2) for EMS Systems Operations.

Refresher training can also be provided involving classroom, range, or both.
